Service Description

This session invites participants to slow down and engage with woodland craft through creativity. With a focus on patience, creativity and mindful skill-building, we’ll explore how working with natural materials can deepen our connection to place while developing practical craft skills. We’ll begin with grounding activities and time to settle into the woodland through play and observation. Using the charcoal created in the previous session, participants will begin by experimenting with drawing inspired by the shapes, textures and atmosphere of the surrounding environment. We’ll then introduce whittling using sheath knives, learning safe handling techniques and basic carving skills. Alongside this, there will be opportunities to explore willow weaving, creating simple forms and patterns through guided making. If needed, shelters will be constructed to create comfortable working spaces. By the end of the session, you will have: - Experimented with charcoal drawing from natural inspiration - Learned the foundations of safe whittling practice - Developed confidence using basic woodland tools - Explored willow weaving techniques What to bring Weather can be unpredictable at this time of year, so please come dressed for all conditions with: - Waterproof layers - Sturdy footwear - Warm layers - Sun protection if needed - Hat Please bring: - Packed lunch for after the session - A refillable water bottle - Flask of tea/coffee if desired Getting here The site can be accessed on foot, by bike or by car.
